felt my first earthquake this morning around 5am. the area i live NEVER gets hit with any, granted it was very minor (California, etc. is probably laughing at us). But I didn't even register what it was, I thought I was having some sort of paranormal experience because my bed was rattling around. Creepy!

Yep and I live on the volcanic plateau in NZ (have done for the whole of my life) - where I am now it's a hundred plus per month - most of them too small to feel. The biggest I've been in was 6.25 Edgecumbe. It's almost a relief when you get the big one. Sort of 'okay, that's over, now let's get on with life!!!' Scariest part was the Andover plane cruising in real low to have a look - I thought 'we've had an earthquake, now we get a plane crash!!!????
And part of the dirty joke stuff is 'did the earth move for you?'
