redbubble

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 19, 2010, 5:50 AM
i've been curious as to what to deal with redbubble is. i get a lot of people asking me for permission to post stuff to their redbubble account. it's generally okay with me as long as you ask and credit me but i'm wondering what the point is if you post to deviantart too? what's the appeal of redbubble over dA?

:skullbones: :skullbones: :skullbones: STOCK USE RULES :skullbones: :skullbones: :skullbones:
(i know it looks like a lot, but c'mon, they're common sense i do something for you, you do something for me, that's how this works :) )

:bulletpink: 1. YOU MUST MUST MUST LINK AND CREDIT ME (link meaning send me an actual link and put an actual link back to me on the deviation, DO NOT JUST TYPE IN MY NAME-THE LINK IS CRUCIAL) and let me know you've used one of my images. I really will hunt you down if you don't :katana: If you are unsure of how to properly link to deviants, please refer to the FAQ [link] it will tell you everything you ever needed to know.

:bulletpink: 2. Please do NOT use my stock in any inappropriate works, NOTHING sexual, hateful, or racist. However, horror and macabre stuff is just fine, i love it.

:bulletpink: 3. Retouching and using my photos as a reference is fine, but just changing a photo to black&white, upping the contrast, overlaying a photoshop filter, etc. is NOT a manipulation and i have the right to ask you to remove any works that I feel do not constitute a true photomanipulation. :D

:bulletpink: 4. PLEASE ASK ME VIA A NOTE BEFORE ANY OFF-SITE USE OF MY STOCK. IF IT IS GOING ON A WEBSITE, PLEASE SEND ME A LINK TO THAT SITE

:bulletpink: 5. Don't send me any inappropriate requests (i.e. nudity, etc...not happening).

:bulletpink: 6. Please keep stupid, inappropriate comments such as OMG UR SO HOTT to yourself. Also, people with foot fetishes-you can take your fetishes elsewhere, YOUR COMMENTS ARE NOT WELCOME ON MY PAGE.

:bulletpink: 7. Deviantart prints of your work that used my stock are fine and you don't need to ask permission. :D

:bulletpink: 9. YOU MAY NOT SUBMIT YOUR WORK USING MY PICTURES INTO THE PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY. IT IS MY PHOTOGRAPHY, NOT YOURS.

I like the prices for prints better and the way it is presented...no need to buy a subscription for special things ...the groups work easier..ppl tend to be nicer and not so bitter as here sometimes. And no adds no nothing that could distract from the artwork /photo itself or whatever =p and one could make an own t-shirt design..thats pretty cool

And OMG, I forgot the most important difference -- no ads on RedBubble! Except for RedBubble ads, I guess.

Let me know if you make an account. I might, too.

I have been a member of RB for over a year and have had more success in selling and also views than DA. RB is another site where you can expand your artist profile and reach a different audience. An artist can never have too many sites where you can display your talent. I also am particularly fond of RB over DA because it reduces the risk of copy and pasting of your art so theft is lower than DA.

It's a better, more mature market and it focuses on all sorts of printable art though photography is one of it's mainstays. You find loads of graphic designers there too with their stuff on T-shirts. Also, the quality of it's prints, etc, is HEAPS better, plus you're not paying the outrageous postage fees.

The layout is different, though not very hard to get used to at all if you actually take the time to have a look around.

It's also free and you get access to everything without ridiculous ads taking over artwork. Oh yeah, and the mods also listen to the users and do stuff based on what the users want most of the time, as opposed to what looks cool to their developers.

All that said, you can't really compare the two, they are different beasts. Don't be worried about it.

the ability to make tshirts sounds pretty nice, as well as better shipping fees :]

Many differences.

Redbubble has a few advantages, as does DA. On RedBubble, you can create t-shirt designs, the groups are easier to use and enjoy improved structure, each group has it's own set of regular features, (which makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy), and probably best is that you don't need a paid account to enjoy every detail of RedBubble. On DA, you can allow full-resolution downloads of your work, so it's much better for stock accounts, and I find it a better location to upload more experimental/in-progress types of images.

I sense, but don't know, that RedBubble is populated by a slightly older crowd, and it also seems to have a strong Australian presence.

I like both, and enjoy the varying benefits of each. I, personally, try to keep my galleries on each site dissimilar, but do sometimes upload the same image to both (mainly my more popular pieces to see how they will be received-- sometimes with very different results).

Hope this helps?

It's an Australian-based website. :)

I personally don't have an account on there. but I know from people who use it as prints store in favor of dA that it has more reasonable shipping rates than dA does.
dA has reasonable shipping rates for US only. I have a 60$ shipping fee on my calendar, that I can get for 15$ with the artist discount. Which is plain crazy. I could get 4x calendars of that.
